What Vero does, in one page

The short version of what Vero records, who uses each part of it, and what changes on day one.

Vero help

Vero records student movement. When a teacher sends a student out of class, that leaving is logged — who, where to, from which lesson, and how long they were gone. Everything else in the product is built on that one record: the live Switchboard showing who is out right now, the search that answers “who was in the corridor at 11:20?”, and the analytics that show a pattern before it becomes an incident.

What it replaces

A paper sign-out sheet by the door, a laminated pass, or nothing at all. Those record the same event, but only in a form nobody can search. Vero keeps the two-second act of writing something down and drops the fifteen minutes of leafing through folders later.

Who uses which part

Vero is one product with three quite different jobs inside it.

  • Teachers use Log Student: one Switchboard for Out of Class, uniform, values and lateness. That is the whole job for most staff: select the student, then the action.
  • Front office and library staff use Kiosk Mode — a screen showing who is on their way, with a check-in button for when they arrive.
  • Year coordinators and leadership use Insights and Alerts — the pattern view, and the rules that tell you about a pattern without you going to look.
  • Administrators and IT set up the SIS connection, the destinations, the roles and the modules. Mostly a first-week job.

What changes on day one

Very little, deliberately. The teacher’s routine is the same act it always was — a student asks, you decide, they go. The difference is that the decision is now written down in a form that adds up. Within a fortnight you can answer questions that used to be unanswerable:

  • Which students are out of class right now, and where were they headed?
  • How much class time has a particular student missed this term?
  • Which period of the day generates the most bathroom traffic?
  • Who else was out at the same time, going to the same place?

What Vero does not do

  • Students cannot issue their own passes. Every movement is authorised by a staff member, which is what keeps your duty of care intact.
  • It does not track location. Vero records the destination a teacher chose, not where a phone is. There is no geolocation and no device tracking.
